The Beach was filmed on location at Phi Phi Leh Island, Phuket, Krabi and Khao Yai National Park.

Phi Phi Leh caters to many tourists as its idyllic beaches are only a small boat trip away from the bigger island.

For those who believe in ghosts: Phi Phi was terribly hit by the 2004 tsunami…

Phi Phi tourist information

Getting to Phi Phi Islands is easy. From Phuket and Krabi depart many ferries making return trips twice daily. During peak season a regular ferry services from Koh Lanta to Phi Phi. Book your tickets at any travel agency or directly on the piers.

Phi Phi has something for every budget, especially backpackers. 1 star (or less) bungalow rooms far outnumber upmarket resorts. The northern tip of Phi Phi Don offers excellent and especially quiet accommodations away from the noise.

The Phi Phi islands are part of Hat Noppharat Thara/Ko Phi-Phi National Park. Although the overall mood of the islands is still very relaxed, over-development is spoiling Phi-Phi Don.

Phi Phi’s beauty are the sheer cliffs rising from the sea and sun bathers will surely enjoy the fine white-sand beaches.

On the big Islands there are no roads and being an island, there’s no real schedule, no hustle-and-bustle, no reason to be in a hurry. There are footpaths between certain beaches, but hop onto a longtail boat to cruise between the beaches and coves.

Go diving and snorkeling in and around the clear waters of Phi Phi enjoying the marvelous marine life. Or get away from it all by hiring a sea kayak and paddle around Ko Nok, at the eastern end of Ao Ton Sai.

For the dare-devils there is the possibility of superb rock climbing and cliff diving.

Be prepared for hot weather! The tropical rainy season is from May to December. Temperatures during the year are a typical 25ºC to 32ºC (77ºF to 89.6ºF). Tropical rainstorms in Phi Phi are short and hard: do bring your soap :-)
